Recently God of War director, Corey Balrog has taken to Twitter to try and answer some of the burning questions fans have on the game. While most of them he couldn’t answer outright, one question directly asked if the motion capture work had been finished. Balrog admitted that the majority of the scenes had wrapped shooting, but the team isn’t completely finished with it yet. Bearing that in mind, it’s interesting to note that God of War’s lead level designer Rob Davis recently stated to the fine folks over at VG 24/7 during a behind-closed-doors showing this morning that the demo being shown this week is running at 30 frames-per-second. With this being the case, it means that the footage displayed during Sony’s E3 showcase was operating on a “regular” PlayStation 4, instead of the company’s now-confirmed PS4 Neo....

Sony confirmed as much in a recent blog post, where it confirmed that development on God of War started later than another one of its big upcoming games, Horizon Forbidden West. It said that it made the decision to delay God of War Ragnarok’s release date to 2022 so that the development team can deliver a game that lives up to fan expectations without sacrificing the health of its developers....

Indeed, Cory Barlog said fans would get this information as soon as Sony and Santa Monica were ready, and now it seems the companies were ready to show this off. God of War Ragnarok received a new cinematic today, clocking in at a short 30 seconds. It includes some dialogue between Atreus and Kratos, as well as the reveal of Fenrir. In Norse mythology, Fenrir is one of the children of Loki, so it’ll be interesting to see how it shakes out....

It should be clarified that God of War Ragnarok is still planned for release on PS4 as well as PS5. That could be a part of why Sony released this new trailer, as the company continues to push players toward its newer console and its various features that the PS4 may otherwise lack.
