Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest event will take place on Thursday, June 9 at 11am PT. While there will be some world premieres and big reveals, Keighley has clarified that the Summer Game Fest announcements will mainly deal with previously announced games. God of War Ragnarok would certainly fit the bill, though it should be stressed that the game has not actually been confirmed for a Summer Game Fest appearance at the time of this writing, so fans should keep their expectations in check.

The rumor stems from leaker Millie A on Twitter, who has accurately leaked industry news in the past. Millie A’s tweet is simply tagging Summer Game Fest with an axe emoji and a Grey’s Anatomy gif that says, “We’re overdue for a date.” Fans have taken this to mean that Millie A is teasing a God of War Ragnarok release date reveal for Summer Game Fest, but it’s possible that they’re looking too much into it.

For those who may be unfamiliar with the latest God of War games, the reason why the axe emoji has led fans to believe Millie is teasing a God of War Ragnarok release date reveal for Summer Game Fest is because Kratos’ main weapon in the 2018 game was the Leviathan Axe. Luckily, with Summer Game Fest merely a day away at this point, fans don’t have to wait much longer to see if there was any signifiance to the axe in Millie A’s tweet.

This isn’t the only recent development that pertains to the God of War Ragnarok release date. The God of War Ragnarok placeholder release date was recently moved from September 30 to December 31, indicating that Ragnarok may have been pegged for a Q3 release, but has since been moved back to Q4. Again, it’s possible fans are reading too much into it, but hopefully more information comes sooner rather than later.

If God of War Ragnarok is a no-show at Summer Game Fest, one has to imagine that it will appear at the rumored State of Play for September, but that’s just speculation at this time.

God of War Ragnarok is in development for PS4 and PS5.
