But getting to the Sanctuary Grove is not inherently an obvious task. Players may note the location on the map just south of the Lake of the Nine in Midgard, but they may have a tough time figuring out exactly how to get there. The path may be disguised, but it’s simple to access for anyone interested in uncovering this unique piece of God of War: Ragnarok.

Prerequisite For Accessing Sanctuary Grove

In order to get Kratos to Sanctuary Grove, the player will first need to complete the main story missions of the game. This means defeating Odin and rolling the first set of credits in God of War: Ragnarok. The epilogue and second-credit-roll is well worth the time, but it is not necessary as a prerequisite to access Sanctuary Grove.

How To Get There

It may come as a surprise, but getting to the Sanctuary Grove on foot (or by sled) is not an option. Instead, getting to this location will actually require Kratos to leave Midgard for a brief time. After completing the game, head to the nearest Mystic Gateway and return to Sindri’s House. Outside the house, hurl the Leviathan Axe at the wind chimes to summon Ratatoskr. After a brief conversation, the squirrel will gift the player with a pouch of Yggdrasil seeds that will now allow Kratos to access Mystic Gateways even if he’s never visited them before.

The next step is to return to the Mystic Gateway and access Midgard. Select the new accessible Gateway to the Sanctuary Grove and fast travel to the location.

What To Do In Sanctuary Grove

Despite the mystery that surrounds getting to the Sanctuary Grove in the post-game, there’s not a whole lot to be done here. Freya has a much-needed heart-to-heart with her neglected turtle, Chaurli, which is certainly worthwhile for players interested in the character work within God of War.

When facing Chaurli, walk to the left (Chaurli’s right) to find Mirkweed which will assist in completing the Nine Realms in Bloom sidequest.

Once that’s done, feel free to look around. Leaving the big guy again may be sad, but hopefully Chaurli will get some love in whatever is to come in the future of God of War.

God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS4 and PS5.
