As it so happens, The NPD Group has also reported that God of War was such a successful financial performer for April 2018 that the title assisted Sony in becoming the month’s top-selling publisher within the industry. In fact, the PS4 exclusive’s positive debut helped the console’s software dollar sales last month set an all-time April high for any platform since tracking began in 1995, beating the previous record held by Xbox 360 set in April 2008.
There’s no doubt that God of War’s sales feat is certainly remarkable and worthy of praise, but it’s also important to note that it didn’t really have much in the way of competition during April, as its only noteworthy challenger was Far Cry 5, which took the second slot on the software charts. Following the Ubisoft first-person shooter was MLB 18: The Show, Nintendo’s Labo Variety Kit, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, respectively. Those interested can see The NPD Group’s complete rankings of the Top 10 Best-Selling Games for April 2018 directly below.

All things considered, even though God of War didn’t face many other major games vying for the top spot as April 2018’s best-seller, it’s safe to presume that the PS4 exclusive would’ve handily held its own quite well should it have released in other months stacked with potential blockbusters. After all, prior to its launch, God of War was considered by many to be one of the most highly anticipated games of 2018.
God of War is available now for PlayStation 4.
